The Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline has announced the addition of Mary Elin Barnish and Maria Owens to its staff.
Barnish and Owens will provide training and support for the increasing number of Illinois State University educators working in Chicago Public Schools.
Barnish joins the Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline from the Illinois New Teacher Collaborative (INTC) at the University of Illinois where she served as statewide coordinator for the Illinois State Board of Education Beginning Teacher Programs. In this position, she designed, conducted, and facilitated training workshops for mentors, beginning teachers, and administrators while conducting research on state-funded induction programs. Prior to the INTC, Barnish worked in high schools as both a teacher and administrator and earned her Ed.D. at National Louis University.
Owens brings more than three decades of school experience to the Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline. She began her career as a teacher in Chicago Public Schools and has served as an educator and administrator in a variety of Illinois districts. Owens developed induction and mentoring programs for the DuPage County Regional Office of Education and served as an induction specialist in the Northern Illinois region for the INTC.
