Diversity Advocacy is hosting the Social Justice Institute: The Power of One: Awareness, Change and Responsibility for Illinois State students. The free, one-day conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. January 26, 2013, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center.

Registration is required. Students can register on the Dean of Student’s website at DeanofStudents.IllinoisState.edu.

The Institute aims to provide students with an opportunity to explore the identities that make up who they are, and help them gain a better understanding of how these identities impact everything they do.

“The Institute is just one of the activities from Diversity Advocacy that helps students see the bigger picture of social justice – outside individual activities or causes – while inspiring them through conversations to continue their work,” said Ashley Taylor of Diversity Advocacy.

Taylor noted that through facilitated activities, exercises and small group dialogue, participants engage in conversations meant to challenge and support them in their journey. “The goal is to assist students as they seek to understand how they can positively impact the Illinois State campus and global community,” added Taylor.
