Dr. Maureen Block

Dr. Maureen Block graduated from Indiana University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and from the University of Illinois Medical School. She completed her residency and fellowship at Rush Medical Center.

Block was a longtime partner and managing partner at the Illinois Heart & Lung Associates in Bloomington-Normal. She was an active member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Illinois Heart & Lung Foundation board of directors, and was one of the founding physicians of Women’s Health Night. Block was a leader in health care for women in our community. Her life was cut short when she died at the age of 41.

In 2012, Illinois Heart & Lung Associates established a scholarship in Block’s memory, which will celebrate her “spirit of success” and inspire others to follow in her footsteps of health care excellence. The Mennonite College of Nursing is honored to be selected to carry on Block’s legacy through this scholarship and is thrilled to be awarding the first Maureen Block Scholarship this year.
