Illinois State University President Timothy Flanagan has announced a search for a cabinet-level position, Assistant to the President for Diversity and Inclusion.

“It seems appropriate that on Founders Day, a day to celebrate and recognize our core values, including the value of diversity, we are beginning an immediate search for Illinois State University’s first Assistant to the President for Diversity and Inclusion,” the president announced today at the annual celebration of the University’s heritage.

Two separate task forces formed to study campus diversity initiatives concluded with the recommendation that a cabinet-level position be created to champion diversity initiatives and find new ways to make Illinois State an inclusive academic community.

A newly formed President’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion will participate in the search, which will begin immediately.

“It’s my hope that we can fill this position from within the Illinois State University community,” the president said. “We want to identify someone with experience and passion for this agenda who knows the University and already enjoys the respect of his or her colleagues.”
