Dining centers, several campus restaurants to go cash-free

Students dining at Watterson Dining Commons

Students enjoy a meal at Watterson Dining Commons.

Beginning August 13, Campus Dining Services will only accept Flex Dollars, Redbird Dollars, and credit and debit cards at the University’s dining centers, Jamba Juice in the Student Fitness Center, the Business Bistro in the State Farm Hall of Business, and Airport Lounge in Centennial. Cash will no longer be accepted at those locations. Einstein Bros Bagels at Milner Library has been cash-free since opening in November 2013. All locations within the Bone Student Center as well as Subway restaurants in residential areas will continue to accept cash.

Many factors were considered when making this decision. There are safety and security risks with having cash on hand at so many locations across campus, and going cash-free will help enhance safety and security. Additionally, there is quite a bit of time and labor involved in managing large amounts of cash. Going cash-free will enable Campus Dining to be more efficient and focus more time on serving customers.

More information about this change is available at Dining.IllinoisState.edu. Thanks in advance for everyone’s patience and understanding as we make this transition in fall 2014.
