Living with a positive outlook in today’s society can take a lot of practice! Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the moment, and nonjudgmentally. Free mindfulness courses for students and employees will be held in October. Classes are facilitated by Health Promotion and Wellness staff.

Mindfulness has been shown to help improve sleep; reduce stress and anxiety; improve focus, academic performance, and eating behaviors; and contribute to a greater sense of well-being and happiness. During this class, participants learn and practice various mindfulness and meditation techniques that can lessen stress and improve overall well-being. Participants are introduced to a variety of concepts in order to find methods that work for them. Skills learned are practiced so that once the class is over, participants are confident in being able to continue applying techniques learned.

This course meets once a week for four weeks at two different times a week for students and once a week for employees:

  • Mindfulness Class for Employees
    Meets Tuesdays October 6, 13, 20, and 27
    Noon to 1 p.m. in McCormick Hall
  • Wednesday Mindfulness Class for Students
    Meets Wednesdays October 7, 14, 21, and 28
    3 to 4:15 p.m. in McCormick Hall
  • Thursday Mindfulness Class for Students
    Meets Thursdays October 8, 15, 22, and 29
    3:30 to 4:45 p.m. in McCormick Hall

Classes are free, but space is limited and registration is required.
