With more than 30 years working on Broadway, Thom Schilling ’79 was ready for a new adventure. He found it by working this year to create the first fully produced Broadway musical in Cuba in close to five decades.
Rent was staged as a cultural exchange between Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, where Schilling is a general manager and executive producer, and The Consejo des Artes Escenica in Havana. He described it as the most challenging of all foreign productions he has attempted, due in part to Cuba’s limited resources.
He also deemed it “perhaps the most rewarding of any theatrical undertaking in which I have participated.”
