The deadlines for the College of Education’s summer study abroad programs are fast approaching!

The last day to submit an application for Brighton, England; Heredia, Costa Rica; and Dublin, Ireland is February 1. For students interested in Alcala de Henares, Spain; Asahikawa, Japan; or Taipei, Taiwan, the deadline is March 1. Senior education majors who would like to student teach overseas must apply for the fall 2016 program in Eastbourne, England by March 15. Not all programs require applicants to be College of Education students or enrolled in an education major to be eligible for consideration. Additional College of Education study abroad opportunities are available.

Brighton, England

This three-week study abroad program at the University of Brighton is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in being introduced to the British education system.

Heredia, Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a brand-new study abroad option for Illinois State students.

For the first time, Illinois State is offering a 15-day summer program that takes place at the Universidad de Costa Rica. Students are on campus for language and cultural classes, will visit seven diverse school settings, and explore Costa Rica through several field trips.

This four-week study abroad program has a focus on special education in Ireland, including low vision and blindness. The diverse school visits and historical trips across the country add up to 6 credit hours for students, who live in apartments in the CEA Global Campus.

 

Asahikawa, Japan

Undergraduate and graduate students spend four weeks at Hokkaido University of Education in this Asahikawa-based program. While living with host families who live in the Daisetsu Mountains region, students can earn up to six credit hours. The trip includes observations at Japanese schools and visits to cultural centers.

This four-week program takes place in from mid-late May through June. Undergraduate students will get involved in intercultural dialogues, visit Taiwanese schools, and be immersed in the cultural, social, and political aspects of the host country.

Eastbourne, England

Illinois State University education majors student teach and explore the history and culture of Eastbourne, England.

Students take a trip to the coast during their study abroad student teaching adventure in Eastbourne, England.

This fall student teaching option is available to undergraduate education majors who are eligible for student teaching. Students spend nine weeks of their experience at the University of Brighton in Eastbourne, England and earn up to six credit hours. Students will stay with host families. Eastbourne is approximately 125 miles from London and very close to the seaside.
