The Center for the Study of Education Policy (CSEP) has just released a new white paper titled Lessons for States: The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Increases Focus on and Investment in Supporting Principal Preparation and Development. This paper precedes the release of the final report by the Illinois School Leadership Advisory Council (ISLAC).
The Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Board of Higher Education joined with Advance Illinois and CSEP to create ISLAC. ISLAC was charged with developing a five-year strategic plan to support and sustain the pipeline of high-quality principals across the state of Illinois and those recommendations are set to be released in the coming weeks.
The ESSA white paper contains two crosswalks—one showing the alignment of the ESSA Title II Statutory Language to Illinois’ PreK-12 Principal Endorsement requirements, and one between the ISLAC recommendations and ESSA-Title II Statutory Language.
