Your Classroom Technology Policy
Tuesday, August 2 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Research shows that students respond better when instructors set clear guidelines about the use of mobile technology, such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones, in the classroom. But you don’t have to resign yourself to teaching in spite of digital distractions. Discover ways to collaborate with students at the start of the semester to create agreement over what is, and is not, the appropriate use of technology in your classroom. Registration required.
About.IllinoisState Websites for Faculty and Staff
Tuesday, August 2 • 2–3 p.m.
Stevenson 107
Showcase your teaching, research, and service using your own, customized University webpages. About.IllinoisState is a browser-based way to create webpages. No additional software is required. This workshop is open to faculty and staff only. Registration required.
Excel: Level 2
Wednesday, August 3, 2016 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This course continues the basics of creating and modifying charts that began in Excel: Level 1. Also explore useful tools like filtering, which make viewing data accessible at a glance, and pivot tables to summarize values. Registration required.
Clickers: Introduction
Thursday, August 4 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Clickers are audience-response devices which allow instructors to poll a face-to-face class in real time, displaying the results, and engaging students in their learning. Responses can be recorded and incorporated into grades in ReggieNet. This workshop is designed for those who have not used clickers before at Illinois State and wish to incorporate this powerful technology into their classes starting in the fall. You will explore the latest, cloud-based polling system from TurningPoint, the official vendor for campus. Those already using clickers should instead take the alternate workshop, Clickers: Transition to TurningPoint Cloud. Registration required.
