Department of Politics and Government Chair Ali Riaz spoke October 18 at the Center for Bangladesh Studies at the University of California-Berkeley about his new book, titled Bangladesh: A Political History since Independence.
Riaz said in his presentation that writing the history of Bangladesh has become a challenging task because all regimes since independence have tried to create an official narrative, and any digression from this narrative has been seen as “unpatriotic.”
The event, held October 18th, included commentary by Professor Abhishek Kaicker, of the Department of History at the University of California-Berkeley. Kaicker described the book as “an in-depth, insightful exposition” of the history of the nation. Sanchita Saxena, the center’s director and moderator of the event, described the book as an authoritative and incisive book on Bangladeshi politics.
