The Spoon River Poetry Review (SRPR), published through the Illinois State University Publications Unit, will hold its annual reading event at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at the Ewing Cultural Center, 48 Sunset Road in Bloomington. SRPR celebrates a poetics of emplacement; writing that reveals the borders of our comfort zones as portals to connection rather than sites of irreconcilable difference.
Named for SRPR’s long-time editor and benefactor, Lucia Getsi, the series is co-sponsored by ISU’s Creative Writing Program and Department of English. The event features readings by award-winning SRPR poets, followed by a reception with wine and appetizers. This year’s featured poets include the 2016 SRPR Editor’s Prize Winner Nancy Hewitt and several others.
This event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome, but not required. For more information about this event or accommodations, contact SRPR at contact@srpr.org.
