Al Jazeera interviewed Professor Ali Riaz on April 4 for an article titled, “Is Sheikh Hasina turning Bangladesh into a one-party state?” The article quoted Riaz on the controversy surrounding the jailing of opposition leaders and the “persecution of dissent” occurring before Bangladesh’s general elections.
“The current political and human rights situation in Bangladesh is ‘not suitable’ for holding an election, let alone an ‘inclusive’ one,” Riaz said.
