Redbird cross-country/track and field named MVC Program of the Year
The Illinois State track and field and cross-country team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference 2017–2018 Program of the Year based on their performance in cross-country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field.
Scoring was based on the team’s finish at each Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championship in cross-country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field (i.e., first = 1 point, second = 2 points … 10th = 10 points) with the lowest total score for all six championships (three men’s and three women’s) determining the award winner. Illinois State totaled 14 points, with Indiana State tallying 15.5 and Northern Iowa receiving 21.
The Redbirds claimed three first-place titles during the 2017–2018 season, including a sweep of the 2018 Valley Indoor Track and Field Championships, their first since the 1997 campaign. At the MVC Indoor Championships, the ‘Birds dominated, with the men winning by a margin of 70 points, and the women coming out on top by 35 points.
