The 59th annual Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) conference was held February 7–9 in Rosemont. The ISHA conference program consisted of a large variety of presentations and other opportunities to earn continuing education. One of the most exciting opportunities for students was the 10th Annual College Bowl.
This year’s format required each student on a team to use a clicker system to answer questions individually; the team score was based on how many team members answered a question correctly. Questions were similar to those on the Praxis certifying exam and so participation on a team helped team members prepare for the Praxis exam. The Illinois State University team was composed of speech-language pathology graduate students Kaylee Sienza, Beverly Lloyd, Elena Pivek, and Courtney Huellen. They competed against teams from Eastern Illinois University, Elmhurst College, Midwestern University, Northern Illinois University, Rush University, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, St. Xavier University, University of Illinois, and Western Illinois University.
Faculty in Illinois State’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) reached out to all the graduate students inviting them to participate, and these graduate students happily volunteered. Although Illinois State didn’t place in the top three, the team represented Illinois State admirably, and CSD is proud of them!
