For 38 consecutive years, the School of Communication (SoC) has hosted COM Week. The annual event celebrates and showcases the many fields of communication while also highlighting the achievements of successful alumni. During this weeklong event, students are given opportunities to network with Illinois State University alumni and professionals. The theme this year is “Finding Your Fire,” which encourages students to find their passion for their professional life.
Planning a unique week filled with a diverse choice of discussion panels is not an easy task. Since August, a team of students, along with SoC Business Manager Denise Thomas, has worked to organize this and other events for the SoC.
From networking opportunities to valuable career lessons, COM Week has it all. This year’s lead intern is senior public relations student, Jessica Konstantelos. From her experience with attending COM Week, Konstantelos encourages students to come out and see what is in store for this year’s event.
“COM Week is an amazing experience. I think the most beneficial aspect is the networking available to students,” said Konstantelos. “This year we have some amazing people coming to town for the events. I have heard so many stories of students receiving internship/job opportunities after working with/and meeting these professionals.”
Students can expect diverse professional development opportunities during COM Week 2019. Professionals from different backgrounds will be present during each event. Representatives from the Normal Town Council, Young America, WGLT, and Claire’s Inc. are among those who will be presenting all week.
COM Week 2019 will be held during the week of April 15. Students are encouraged to take part and take advantage of resources provided throughout the week. The full schedule of events is available online.
