The entire campus community is invited to hear the stories and celebrate first generation students at the First Generation Celebration on November 7-8, hosted by the TRIO program in University College.
“This is an opportunity for campus to celebrate and recognize the value of first-generation college students,” said Director of University College Amelia Noel-Elkins.
The University community can register here. RSVPs are required to attend.
The celebration will start with a 1st Generation Gala kick-off at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 7, at the Hancock Stadium Club. National First Generation Day will be celebrated from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, November 8, in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center, with a forum featuring various speakers who identify as first generation, breakout sessions, and discussions.
“This year’s events will celebrate current first generation students, as well as offer students a view of the future by introducing them to first-generation graduates who are now accomplished professionals,” said Coordinator of TRIO in University College Shatoya Black.
Food will be provided at both events. Space is limited. RSVP here.
