Professor of Technology Anu Gokhale and Professor of Mathematics Krzysztof Ostaszewski have been named Distinguished Professors by the Office of the Provost.
Dr. Anu Gokhale received her undergraduate degree at the University of Mumbai in India. She received master’s degrees from the Institute of Science, India, and from the College of William and Mary. She earned a doctoral degree at Iowa State University. Having joined Illinois State University as an associate professor in 1995, she became a full professor in 2001. She has served as associate director of the Center for Applied Information Systems Technology and as coordinator for Computer Systems Technology. Gokhale is an internationally known scholar in the field of computing, her research focuses on networks, algorithms, and data analytics. She has sole-authored multiple editions of a textbook. She is known for excellence in teaching and dedication to service, especially IEEE. She has received nearly $2 million in funded projects and has been a member of the University’s Million Dollar Club since 2014.
Gokhale received the Outstanding University Research Award in 2011, the ISU Internationalization Award in 2017, and has won several college service and research awards. She was named a Fellow of the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology. Gokhale has delivered keynote lectures around the world and is the recipient of many national and international awards including three Fulbright awards as a Fulbright Scholar, Fulbright Distinguished Chair in STEM+C in Brazil, and a Fulbright Specialist in cybersecurity in India.
Dr. Krzysztof Ostaszewski received a master’s degree from the University of Lodz, Poland, and a doctoral degree from the University of Washington. He joined Illinois State University in 2000 as a full professor. At that time, he was also named director of the Actuarial Program, pursuing his vision of creating a preeminent actuarial program. In 2010, he was named the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Lecturer and in 2016, he was named University Professor. Additionally, he is a fellow in the Society of Actuaries and has been a Fulbright Specialist in Poland three times. Under his direction, the Actuarial Program at Illinois State has been recognized as one of the top programs in the world.
Ostaszewski has embraced the teacher/scholar model and is known for making complicated concepts accessible to his students. He is a frequent collaborator with industry and academic partners. Annually he runs the Minority High School Scholars Analytics Academy. A frequent and popular speaker, he has presented all over the world and his work has been cited over 1,200 times. Additionally, he is a published Polish poet and Polish political commentator.
