Tiffany Puckett (NIU) and Nancy S. Lind (ISU) recently published Cultural Competence in Higher Education with Emerald Publishers. As part of a series on cultural competence, this book consists of four sections starting with understanding the importance of cultural competence followed by a section on research related to cultural competence. The research section discusses everything from transforming curriculum to promoting a race informed culturally response pedagogy for human service professionals. Part III focuses on lessons learned from teaching cultural competence to an exposition of the future in Part IV. Some examples from Part IV include strategies for teaching students about racial microaggressions to a pedagogy of cultural self-awareness.
