Three Redbird mockers were recognized for their outstanding performance at the University of Colorado-Boulder virtual mock trial tournament that took place January 16–17.
Tyler Gray-Henry, a junior majoring in political science, scored a perfect score of 20, and recognized as an outstanding witness. He portrayed a winery owner whose business was in competition with the plaintiff. Kyla Egizio, political science-legal studies double major in her senior year, also was named an outstanding witness for her role a wedding planner who testified for the defense.
Nadalie Ponce, a junior political science-legal studies double major, was awarded outstanding attorney. This was the third time a tournament has given her an award this season for her outstanding performance.
ISU team 1033 garnered a 5-3 record. It won both ballots against University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and Truman State. The team split ballots with one Carleton College team and lost both ballots against the other Carleton team.
The other Illinois State squad, team 1034 took both ballots against two University of Colorado-Boulder teams. It lost both sets of ballots to Macalester College teams in two competitions. This gave the team a 4-4 record.
The ISU mock trial team has competitions for the next three weekends at Central College, Loras College, and an American Mock Trial Association regional. All of three of these tournaments will be virtual.
