Professor Tom McClure recently provided professional responsibility training at the 31st Annual Legal Education Seminar, sponsored by the Central Illinois Paralegal Association in association with the McLean County Bar Association.
The sponsor invited McClure to present training to attorneys and paralegals at the seminar. Illinois attorneys must complete continuing legal education (CLE) programs to maintain their license to practice law. McClure presented a CLE program entitled, “The Importance of Work-Life Balance.”
McClure discussed the Illinois Supreme Court rules governing attorneys impaired by mental health conditions. He also introduced participants to the Lawyers’ Assistance Program and proposed expanding its clientele to include paralegals suffering from substance abuse or other mental health conditions. He examined the scope and causes of mental health dysfunctions in the legal profession. Finally, he offered participants ways to improve their work-life balance.
