Illinois State University’s Department of Agriculture is proud to announce the scholarship recipients for this year’s Harvey S. Woods Scholarship. This scholarship honors Harvey Woods, a former Department of Agriculture chairperson and professor. The scholarship is funded by donations and the annual golf outing. This year the golf outing will take place on June 24. Please visit this link and contact Dr. Nicholas Heller if you would like to partner as a sponsor or golfer, or join us for lunch on that day!
The following four students were offered the Harvey S Woods Scholarship.
Hannah Bertok was raised in Central Ohio, and moved to Illinois to study at Illinois State. Bertok comes from a long line of farmers and dairy cattle producers, which sparked her interest in large animal medicine. She is a senior student in the pre-veterinary medicine sequence and will be graduating in December. She is the president of the Student Pre-Veterinary Association and a swine research assistant for Dr. Drew Lugar. She plans to become a food animal and commercial production veterinarian with a focus on bovine and swine once completing veterinary school.
Taylor Irvin is a junior student in the agriculture teacher education sequence. Irvin plans to graduate from Illinois State University in May 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education and to become an agriculture educator and FFA advisor in an Illinois high school.
Keion Mackey has an associate degree in environmental science in an agroecology sequence. Mackey is working toward completing a bachelor’s in agriculture in the crop and soil science sequence. Although Mackey does not come from a farming background, he always had an interest in food production.
Ava Marshall is a senior student in the agriculture communications and leadership sequence.
