Every month the Administrative/Professional (A/P) Council highlights an A/P staff member through a series of questions as another way for the Illinois State community to connect. This month readers can get to know Megan Baxter, academic advisor in the Department of Special Education.

Job title/position: Academic advisor in the Department of Special Education

How long have you been an employee at ISU?: Since 2004. I worked in University College for the first five years.

What do you love most about working at ISU?: I love working in the college environment: the colleagues, the students, the campus.

What is one fact about yourself that might surprise people?: I’ve never driven through a drive through.

When you’re not working, what are you most likely doing?: Watching my boys play baseball or soccer.

What is your favorite spot on campus?: Lately a favorite spot has been the benches outside DeGarmo. I can get some quick sunshine over lunch.

What quote most inspires you? Why?: “Well-behaved women seldom make history,” made famous by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. Along those same lines, I am also inspired by John Lewis, and his “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble” quote. With all that is going on in our country, we can’t afford to sit on the sidelines. It’s taken a while, but I’m finding my voice.
