Early voting is open on the campus of Illinois State University. A rally to celebrate the right to vote will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28 in Milner Plaza.
Organizers say the rally will be a positive event. “We’re celebrating the opportunity to vote on campus and vote early,” said Harriet Steinbach, assistant director of the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) at Illinois State. “We’re looking to this rally as a way to strengthen our campus culture around voting.”
The rally will include grab-and-go food, a line-up of speakers, and giveaways. The rain location will be at DeGarmo Plaza.
Early voting means residents can vote now for the election scheduled on November 8, which is Election Day. Early voting is available on campus in the Bone Student Center and in Watterson Dining Hall. Find out more about early voting on campus.
Washington Monthly recently ranked Illinois State University as one of America’s Best Colleges for Student Voting, so demand for the polls could be high.
“If you vote early, you can sleep in on Election Day, and skip the lines at the polls,” said Jayln Jones, graduate intern for CCE helping to coordinate the event.
Comprehensive election information is available in the Redbird Voter Guide.
The event is sponsored by the CCE’s Student Voter Coalition and the Voter Engagement Initiative.
