The Jack North Student Leadership Award was established in 2005 by the Illinois State University Campaign Steering Committee in honor of campaign chair Jack North. It recognizes a successful, growing leader within the College of Business. Since its establishment, North, an Illinois State University Foundation Board member and retired State Farm senior executive, has made substantial personal investments to the fund.

Adrian Kuzbik

Recent graduate Adrian Kuzbik ’22, a former recipient of the award, expressed his gratitude and shared the inspiration behind his leadership at Illinois State.

Kuzbik began as a mathematics teacher education major but eventually switched to an advanced marketing analytics major after becoming involved with organizations like Alpha Kappa Psi and Business Week. Kuzbik later co-founded the Sports Business Society and eventually served as president of Business Week during his last year at Illinois State.

Jack North Student Leadership Award recipients are given the opportunity to speak at the College of Business commencement each spring. Kuzbik considered the speech a final opportunity to showcase his growth during his time at Illinois State. Speaking to over 1,000 students and family members, Kuzbik shared the experiences and leadership opportunities he received within the College of Business.

Kuzbik said he wouldn’t be the leader he is today without the College of Business. He learned from leaders like North and College of Business Executive Director for Marketing Steve Vandiver ’86. Kuzbik recently accepted a job with Motorola Solutions and is currently working in the Chicago area.

Kuzbik is grateful to have received the Jack North Student Leadership Award, which requires that students maintain a 3.0 GPA, and submit a personal statement and reference upon application.

Honoree and donor North feels equally grateful for the opportunity to enhance each recipient’s Illinois State experience.

“I’m honored to have my name attached to this prestigious award,” said North. “I’ve had the opportunity to interact with virtually every recipient. Needless to say, each has been impressive. My wife and I continue to contribute to the endowment because we love what it represents!”
