For the third-consecutive year, Illinois State won the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) All-Sports Championship. The Redbirds captured the league’s All-Sports Trophy in 2018–2019, 2020–2021, and 2021–2022 (the MVC did not award the trophy during the 2019–2020 pandemic-shortened season).
Appears In“Winning the MVC All-Sports Trophy is something we strive to do each year at ISU, and to take it home for the third year in a row is something our fans, donors, alumni, and community should be extremely proud of,” Director of Athletics Kyle Brennan said.
The All-Sports Trophy is based on a school’s average finish in each of the championships sponsored by the MVC. Illinois State won five league championships in 2021–2022 (volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s tennis, and women’s outdoor track and field). Notably, the Redbirds also finished in the top three in men’s golf, men’s indoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field, women’s cross country, women’s swimming and diving, and women’s indoor track and field.
Illinois State last won at least three-straight MVC All-Sports Championships from 1995–1999 when it was the league’s top overall program in four-straight seasons. Overall, Illinois State has 15 All-Sports crowns and has finished first, second, or third in 28 of the past 31 years.
