Katrina Beck ’19, M.S. ’21, is back on campus at Illinois State as an assistant women’s basketball coach and is bringing a unique perspective to the program. As a former Redbird basketball player herself, Beck is able to share insights with players and recruits about the opportunities and challenges of being a Redbird student-athlete.

On this episode of Redbird Buzz, Beck shares what it means to be able to coach alongside her former head coach, Kristen Gillespie, how the current coaching staff encouraged her to pursue a career in coaching while she was still a player, and what it really takes to be an NCAA Division I assistant women’s basketball coach. From scouting opponents to relationship building with players, Beck speaks about her own experiences as a student-athlete and what it means to coach at her alma mater.
