Dr. Sydney Garlitch presents “Resolving Interference and Updating Long-Term Memory” scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2023, at 2 p.m. in DeGarmo Hall 0048. Garlitch is an assistant professor in the behavioral sciences department at Millikin University in Decatur, and she earned her Ph.D. from UNC-Greensboro in North Carolina in 2022.
“In everyday life, we may experience situations that may differ from something we knew before or had previously experienced,” she said. “This can create interference in memory when trying to recall the most recent experience. We know that such interference can be avoided when these changes are noticed and later remembered. But the factors that contribute to whether people will notice and later remember changes are not well understood. Here, I will discuss my work that examines roles of attention, semantic associations, and the type of retrieval in counteracting interference and updating long-term memories.”
