In February, Professor Thomas McClure and the American Bar Association (ABA) Standing Committee on Paralegals published the monograph, The Economic Benefits of Paralegal Utilization. McClure is currently serving his second term as the chair of this standing committee.

This study presents and discusses quantitative examples to illustrate how law firms can increase their profitability by employing paralegals. McClure presents the key principles that contribute to paralegal profitability. These precepts are more than mathematical illustrations and include the care attorneys should take in hiring, training, and assigning work to paralegals. He also stresses the importance of building trust among the paralegal, the attorney, and the client.

This monograph is the second edition of a 2005 study published by the ABA Standing Committee on Paralegals. The committee envisions this work as an instructive resource that can be used across the nation to educate the legal community about the value of paralegals.

McClure is the acting chair of the Department of Politics and Government in 2022-23.
