Illinois State University will mark the observance of Juneteenth on Monday, June 19, 2023. Classes are cancelled and University offices will be closed, except for necessary operations.

Juneteenth commemorates the day when U.S Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, on June 19, 1865, with news that 250,000 remaining men, women, and children enslaved under the Confederacy were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
