As Move-In Week approaches, University Housing Services works to create and facilitate a safe and efficient process for incoming residents by providing resources when moving into the residence halls. Depending on the location, there will be Curb Birds present to help get your belongings from your vehicle to a designated building.

To facilitate a seamless Move-In experience, a dedicated group of students, faculty, staff, and community members—known as Curb Birds—has volunteered to assist students and their families. Easily identifiable by their red shirts, the Curb Birds will be stationed outside the residence halls. Their primary role is to help unload vehicles as they arrive, ensuring a smooth transition for new residents.

Dela Youngman, a Curb Bird from previous years, stated, “My favorite part about being a Curb Bird was meeting all of the people, both who I worked with and who I helped move in. I ended up making a few friends after helping them move in and assisted them in answering questions.”

Youngman advises future Curb Birds by noting, “The best advice I can give is to make conversation. Ask if they (students and families) have any questions.”

Overall, the Curb Birds’ presence and services are designed to enhance the Move-In experience, ensuring an easy and enjoyable transition for incoming residents and their families.

Move-In Week at Illinois State University will be Monday-Sunday, August 14-20.
