Illinois State Professor of Sociology Dr. Aaron Pitluck was elected to the International Sociological Association’s (ISA) executive committee for a four-year term (2023-2027) at the XX ISA World Congress of Sociology in Melbourne, Australia. Pitluck will be working closely with the president and vice presidents of the ISA to help promote the globalization of sociological knowledge and represent sociologists worldwide.

The ISA’s goal is to “represent sociologists everywhere, regardless of their school of thought, scientific approaches, or ideological opinion, and to advance sociological knowledge throughout the world.”

“I’m honored to have been nominated and elected for this position. I’ve been a member of the ISA since I was a graduate student in 2001, and I’m enthusiastic to have this opportunity to pay it forward,” Pitluck said.

Over the past five years, he has worked closely on the Research Council with the newly elected President Geoffrey Pleyers of Université Catholique de Louvain and newly-elected Vice President of Research Allison Loconto, Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique. Pitluck, along with other members of the Research Council, helped the organization navigate the global trauma of COVID-19.

Pitluck will continue to work closely with ISA leadership during his tenure on the executive committee. “My goal on the executive committee is, quite simply, to deepen the organization’s commitment to scholars in the global South so that we can advance sociological knowledge everywhere.”
