CeCe Brookins was honored by University Housing Services at Illinois State University with the Floyd Hoelting Team Player Award. This award recognizes employees who have consistently assisted other staff in meeting their goals and commitments.

Hoelting received his doctorate in student personnel at Oklahoma State University and gained experience in housing and food services at Western Illinois University prior to working at Illinois State. Hoelting began his career at Illinois State in 1977 where he worked until 1995 when he retired as Housing and Food Services director.

Hoelting overcame many obstacles during his time at Illinois State. All the things he accomplished and overcame were to give students a better experience. One of the people who nominated Brookins explained that she has worked tirelessly to ensure that the student experience is the most important aspect.

A nominator explained that Brookins has worn multiple hats throughout her time in University Housing Services, thus showing her commitment to assisting the team.

“Everything I accomplished was with the team, on the team, and by the team,” Hoelting said. “This shows you the work and mindset needed to flourish in this department. CeCe embodies what it means to be a team player.”

Hoelting described himself as a teacher and a student, which allowed him to teach and be taught.

“I think it is important to recognize people, regardless of title and position, who model the attributes of a team player,” Hoelting said. “This is how and why this award came to fruition. Congratulations, CeCe!”
