Scott Schaefer ’17 is a remarkable Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) alum and an inspiration to aspiring nurses.

Schaefer graduated in the class of 2017 after working as a nursing simulation center “labbie.” He was also a proud member of the ISU Xi Pi chapter of Sigma.

Schaefer’s journey took an exciting turn during his senior year when he embarked on a ride-along with an air ambulance. The experience was a memorable one, and it sparked a passion in Schaefer to become a flight nurse.

After graduating, Scott began his career as an ER nurse in Normal, where he spent six fulfilling years. His dedication and expertise led him to serve as the department educator for the emergency department for two years. He enjoyed his time there, but still dreamt of taking to the skies once again.

In April 2023, Schaefer’s dream became a reality as he joined Air Evac Lifeteam in Macomb as a flight nurse. After completing intensive ground training, he now transports patients by air, ensuring they receive the highest level of critical care. As a flight nurse, Schaefer thrives on the opportunity to provide essential care to patients in rural areas, delivering them swiftly to definitive care centers.

Schaefer’s journey is a testament to the incredible possibilities within the nursing profession. MCN applauds his dedication and passion for making a difference outside of the traditional hospital setting.
