On September 12, Gordon K. Duguid ’78, a retired career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, spoke to political science undergraduates about his international career. Duguid served as senior advisor on Bosnia and director of press and public diplomacy for Europe and Eurasia for the U.S. Department of State. He was also executive secretary for the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism for the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States, and state department chair for the National Intelligence University.
Duguid described the path that led him from Central Illinois to an international career, stressing the importance of strong writing skills, foreign languages, and cultural knowledge. He encouraged students to consider working internationally, detailing the many opportunities his career had afforded him and his family.
