The Center for Integrated Professional Development invites everyone with teaching responsibilities at Illinois State University (full- and part-time faculty, teaching assistants, civil service, and administrative/professional staff), as well as those who support student learning in co-curricular contexts, to develop a symposium proposal in one of the following formats:

  • A 25-minute presentation (maximum two presenters)
  • A 50-minute panel presentation (minimum three presenters; more than five not recommended)
  • A poster presentation (posters will be produced by the Center at no charge, using your design)

While all proposals related to scholarly approaches to teaching and learning are welcome, organizers especially encourage proposals that address the symposium theme, Thriving at Illinois State.

Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2023. Find additional resources and access the proposal submission form at ProDev.IllinoisState.edu/Symposium.

About the 2024 theme

After much deliberation, organizers chose Thriving at Illinois State as the theme for the 2024 event. To thrive at the University goes beyond academic achievement to include engagement in and outside the classroom, social connectedness, and opportunities to engage with diverse perspectives. It goes beyond feelings of happiness and academic accomplishment to include feelings of connection, purpose, and growth (Su, Tay & Diener, 2014). The 2024 symposium will center conversations on how our teaching practices can foster opportunities for ourselves, as instructors, and for our students to thrive in and out of the classroom.
