The Department of Psychology will recognize Alumnus of the Year/Lifetime Achievement awardee Dr. Shona Vas, M.S. ’97, on Alumni Day on Friday, October 13. An associate professor in the department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago, Vas will present a talk titled “Professional Development Steps along the Road from Normal,” from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in DeGarmo 463.
A graduate of the clinical psychology master’s program at Illinois State, Vas went on to complete a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Loyola University Chicago. After training in several different settings, Vas found her professional home at the University of Chicago in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience, where she has been employed since 2005.
Currently an associate professor, Vas serves as director of the cognitive-behavior therapy program and director of clinical psychology training. She is board-certified in behavioral and clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Beck Institute certified master clinician. Her clinical expertise involves the assessment and treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and trauma and stressor-related disorders. She provides didactic education and clinical supervision to advanced practicum students, psychology interns, and postdoctoral fellows. Vas’ passion for psychology education and training is supported by leadership of the University of Chicago’s APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral internship program and her current role as chair of the board of directors of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers.
