Every year, Illinois State sends nearly 1,000 preservice teachers into classrooms, ready to shape young lives as educators. We know that setting up a classroom and embarking on this mission can come with a hefty price tag.
This year, the Larry and Barbara Efaw Center for Educator Excellence in the College of Education wants to further support teacher education students by gifting each graduating Redbird educator with a Redbird Teacher Supply Bag. The Redbird Teacher Supply Bags will be filled with the basic items any teacher would need in their classroom: pens, pencils, dry erase markers, crayons, markers, band aids, scissors, glue, timers, stickers, and so much more.
In addition to the bags, donations will also go to support the Efaw Center’s Teacher Supply Pantry. The Teacher Supply Pantry will provide classroom items that teacher education students may need for creating lesson plans for classes, clinicals, or student teaching.
“The Student Teacher Supply Drive is designed to equip our students with those ‘go to’ materials that teachers tend to spend their hard-earned money on,” explains Dr. Becky Beucher, director of the Larry and Barbra Efaw Center for Educator Excellence. “I believe that this campaign will help alleviate some of the financial burdens that student teachers take on with open hearts and allow the community to send care and compassion back to these future teachers who give so much of themselves to their students.”
Our goal is to gift a Redbird Teacher Supply Bag to each teacher education student as they go into their student teaching semester. We received a generous gift from an anonymous donor to launch our campaign. Now we need your help to make sure every Redbird educator who is starting their student teaching semester receives a supply bag.
We need to raise an additional $7,000 so that we can prepare even more Redbird Educator Supply Bags. All donors who give $100 or more will receive an exclusive I am a Redbird Educator medium tote bag.
