Through its new University Recognition Program, the Casualty Actuarial Society has honored the actuarial program at Illinois State University with its highest level of recognition, Gold Level.

Illinois State is also recognized by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence. The actuarial science program at Illinois State was one of the first nine academic programs in the United States to receive that recognition in 2009, and the first one in the state of Illinois. In addition to Illinois State, there are only eight other universities in the world that have both Center of Actuarial Excellence and Gold Level recognition. “High-quality instruction, internship partnerships, and faculty research are a trademark of the Actuarial Sciences Program here at ISU,” said Dr. Benton Duncan, chair of the Department of Mathematics. “I’m excited that the Casualty Actuarial Society has recognized the hard work of our faculty that goes into helping our students be successful.”

Because of the excellent work of the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management in the College of Business, Illinois State is also recognized as a Global Center of Insurance Excellence. There are only two universities in the world that have earned all three recognitions: Georgia State University and Illinois State University.

Illinois State’s actuarial program is one of the leading programs in the United States, offering an undergraduate bachelor’s degree and a graduate master’s degree. Dr. Krzysztof Ostaszewski, Distinguished Professor of Mathematics, is the actuarial program director.

The Casualty Actuarial Society, founded in 1914, is a leading international organization for credentialing and professional education.
