The National Board Resource Center (NBRC) announced the National Board Class of 2023. Our center congratulates the 130 new Illinois National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) who achieved certification per the December 9 score release, as well as the 232 Illinois teachers who renewed their National Board certification through Maintenance of Certification.
We are honored to have these educators play an integral role in guiding current and new students through their academic ventures. These teachers are now a part of a growing community of National Board Certified Teachers with over 7,000 qualified members in our state alone. This makes Illinois the No. 1 state in the Midwest with the most National Board Certified Teachers.
“Our work at the National Board is based on the belief that every child deserves to be taught by an accomplished teacher,” said Peggy Brookins, NBCT, president, and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. “When accomplished practice becomes the norm, the advantage will be significant, spreading beyond students and teachers to be felt by their communities, employers, and society-at-large.
“The National Board Resource Center is proud of the accomplishments of Illinois’ new and renewed NBCTs. By achieving certification and renewing certification, these educators have demonstrated their continued commitment to excellence and the students in Illinois.”
In addition to the new NBCTs, Illinois currently has over 1,000 teachers pursuing board certification. Being board certified is not just a title, it is seeing the positive impact that being an NBCT has on fellow teachers and students that help shape the present and future of the community.
