Where can I find job openings? Is there a way to find jobs abroad? Where can I get help with my career questions?
Hire-A-Redbird, Illinois State University’s online job board, not only provides answers to those career questions but actively assists students and alumni with their career development and professional readiness.
Career advice
Redbirds seeking assistance in exploring careers or advice on job search strategies can schedule a virtual appointment with career advisors using Hire-A-Redbird. Career advisors can provide assistance with drafting a career plan, applying to graduate or professional schools, re-careering, and other career needs.
You will be able to select your preferred appointment type: in-person, email, phone, or virtual. Once your request is received, your career advisor will send an email confirmation regarding your appointment request. If you choose a virtual appointment, you will receive an email containing a Zoom invitation.
International opportunities
Hire-A-Redbird also assists international Redbirds and those seeking career opportunities abroad through GoinGlobal. Located within Hire-A-Redbird, GoinGlobal provides access to more than 16 million job and internship postings, a worldwide employer directory, a multilingual search function to find openings posted in one’s local language, career guides, H-1B visa information, and more.
Internship assistance
In addition to identifying internship opportunities, Hire-A-Redbird contains an experiential learning/internship module for students participating in internships and the internship coordinators and faculty who oversee them.
The internship module allows students to:
- Search and apply for internships/professional practice experiences
- Add internship/professional practice experiences to their academic profile whether taken for credit or not
- Track and submit hours completed
- List and track tasks and responsibilities completed during an internship
- Evaluate their internship experience
“Hire-A-Redbird is just one of the many resources we provide to continue to meet the evolving needs of students and alumni and help them navigate their careers effectively,” said Quanisha Kumi-Darfour ’06, Career Services associate director.
