The Dean of Students Office invites faculty and staff to learn about the Student Navigator program through an informal open house on Friday, April 19, from noon-2 p.m. on the third floor of the Student Services Building. Faculty and staff may arrive any time between noon and 2 p.m. and stay as long as they can. An informal lunch will be provided while supplies last. No RSVP is required.

The Student Navigator program welcomes Illinois State students to meet one-on-one with a peer Student Navigator when lacking a basic need associated with being an ISU student (food, housing, textbooks, course materials, technology, transportation, etc.). The open house is designed to give essential information to faculty and staff about how Student Navigators can help when students express basic needs insecurity.

National studies have revealed that up to 40% of college students experience food insecurity at some point in their collegiate careers. Campus departments have noticed an increase in calls for help from students who are attempting to be academically successful despite barriers such as a lack of funds to purchase course materials or access to required technology. Student basic need insecurity is a critical social challenge to ISU’s retention and graduation rates, and the well-being of individual students.
