The #RedbirdImpact Day of Service invites all alumni and friends to travel to campus Saturday, June 15, to serve and connect with fellow Redbirds. Participants will work with the Boys & Girls Club that morning and the West Bloomington Revitalization Project or Back 2 School Alliance that afternoon.

Schedule

  • 8 a.m.: Stop by the Illinois State University Alumni Center for a continental breakfast and check-in.
  • 9-11:30 a.m.: Volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal, a youth-empowerment organization that provides summer and after-school programming and activities to those who need them most. The club gives kids opportunities to succeed through programs that impact their lives. It currently provides quality programs and services for underserved children, as well as introduces their families to other resources in the community. Its programs include homework help and tutoring, STEM activities focusing on the future of technology, introduction to the arts, leadership, service learning, as well as career exploration and development.
  • 12-1 p.m.: Head back to campus to join Redbirds for a special lunch featuring a #RedbirdImpact celebration.
  • 1-3 p.m.: Stay at the Bone Student Center to create letters of kindness to include in the backpacks for the Back 2 School Alliance program or head to the West Bloomington Revitalization Project to assist with neighborhood cleanup and walk-through. Located in the heart of the city, West Bloomington will be characterized by its high quality-of-life, empowered residents, and deep sense of pride. Through partnerships and strong associations and building on the neighborhood’s history and diversity, West Bloomington will be home to new jobs, homes, and vibrant public gathering spaces in a safe and welcoming community.

All activities are free to attend. A limited number of spaces for each activity is available. Guests can register for one or both service projects. Registration is available through noon on June 12 online or by contacting Alumni Engagement at (309) 438-2586.

How else to make a #RedbirdImpact

Alumni and friends can join a Redbird scheduled #RedbirdImpact service project including a special day on campus. Can’t make it to one of those scheduled activities? Register any volunteer hours between now and the end of June to help reach the 450-hour goal. Each time an alum or friend submits hours, they will also be entered to win the summer impact prize that will include items to enjoy a relaxing day outside after working hard to make a #RedbirdImpact.

Those interested in coordinating a service project for their area Redbirds in June can reach out to the Alumni Engagement Office for help with promotions and registrations.
