The next event of the Fall 2024 International Seminar Series will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from noon–1 p.m. in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center or via our virtual zoom link below. International Seminar Series events are free and open to the public with advance registration.
Series overview: Politics are personal and local, but they are also inherently global. This semester’s series seeks to explore the intersections of U.S. and global politics. Speakers and panelists will examine the complexities of governance, electoral and political systems, information sharing, voting, and democracy in a rapidly globalizing world. Together, we will gain a deeper understanding of how political dynamics shape and are shaped by international interactions.
This session is titled “Media, Elections, and Global Perceptions.” Our faculty experts will focus on how the media plays a pivotal role in shaping public perception of elections, both domestically and globally. We will explore how media coverage influences electoral outcomes, the portrayal of candidates, and the global perception of elections. Presenters will delve into the dynamics of international media influence, the role of social media, and the impact of international news on local political landscapes. Attendees will gain insight into the power of the media in shaping electoral narratives and public opinion across borders.
The event will feature faculty experts:
Dr. Dmitry Zhdanov, State Farm Endowed Chair in Cybersecurity, School of Information Technology
Dr. Joseph Zompetti, Professor, School of Communication.
Lunch will be provided before the event at 11:45 a.m. RSVP is required for in-person attendance. If you cannot attend in-person and still want to join, please use this Zoom link. Advance registration is not necessary for online attendance.
