Your success graduating and landing a job is a true inspiration for current students studying at Illinois State. That’s why Career Services invites you to become a part of the Alumni Mentor Network.
Through the network, you serve as a volunteer mentor to a current Illinois State student. You can assist them by providing tips on interviewing, networking, job searching, and other career/industry information based on your personal experience. Students will learn from you, while you have an opportunity to make an impact on the career of a future professional.
“The Alumni Mentor Network is an excellent tool for Redbird alumni to give back their time and talent to the University and support the workforce of the future,” stated Career Services Associate Director Natalie R. Alexander. “In fact, through their participation, they may actually find themselves identifying a future colleague or candidate for job openings with their employer.”
The program is easy to use. Students self-select a mentor from a list of volunteers based on their preference and career goals and request the mentorship. In return, when alumni receive their request, they have the option to approve based on the student’s career interests or career questions. Once both parties accept the connection, they decide how often to connect, the medium for communication (i.e., phone, virtual, in-person, email, etc.), and other details for the mentorship.
“Students have always asked for ways to connect directly with alumni. The Alumni Mentor Network is the perfect way for Redbirds to help Redbirds,” stated Alexander.
