Student leaders from Students Ending Rape Culture (SERC) and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Program are coming together to amplify survivor voices and raise awareness about violence on campus. This year’s Take Back the Night march will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in 184 McCormick at Illinois State University.

The event is free and open to the campus community and the greater Bloomington-Normal area. Queer Coalition and Pride will deliver speeches, contributing their perspectives to the ongoing conversation about survivor support and campus safety following the reported homophobic hate crime that occurred at the beginning of the fall semester.

The evening begins with a community poster-making session, followed by a march to show solidarity with survivors and demand campus safety. The event will conclude with a vigil, honoring the strength and resilience of survivors. Resources and support will be available through partnerships with Mid Central Community Action of McLean County and YWCA’s Stepping Stones.

Through these alliances, SERC and WGSS aim to increase awareness and promote healing for those affected by violence on campus.
