Career Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Summers as associate director for student relations. In this role, he is responsible for increasing student engagement with Career Services and developing an enhancing career development and career readiness initiatives.

“Illinois State has a strong track record of empowering students and alumni to not only make significant contributions in their chosen careers but to be leaders and change agents across a broad range of industries,” Summers said. “I look forward to continuing that legacy and helping students to maximize their talents and connect the classroom to their career aspirations.”

Summers already has a foundation for his work. “I like to call it the three A’s to Career Services: awareness, access, and advantage. Increase student awareness about current and emerging industries; expand access to employers, partners, and alumni; and encourage students to take advantage of the valuable opportunities and resources Career Services provides to them. I aim to achieve this by working collaboratively with students, campus partners, and employers to develop transformative programming that fosters relative technical and transferrable skill development, and by connecting students with industry-leading employers. Our team possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge that we are eager to share with students and alums.”

Before joining Illinois State, Summers served as a program director in career advancement at the University of Chicago. Additionally, he worked at the Chicago Public Schools and in the tech sector at COUNTRY Financial.

Summers holds a Master of Arts in public policy from the University of Chicago, a Master of Education in urban higher education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Bachelor of Science in data analytics from Rasmussen University.
