Seven College of Arts and Sciences faculty and staff were honored with College Excellence Awards during the fall dean’s address and awards ceremony September 12 in the Old Main Room. Professor Brent Simonds, Ed.D., School of Communication, was the winner of the 2016–2017 John A. Dossey Award for Outstanding Teaching by a tenured professor. Assistant Professor Rebekka Darner Gougis, Ph.D., School of Biological Sciences, won the award for Outstanding Teaching by a pre-tenured professor, and Assistant Chair Ron Gifford, Ph.D., Department of History, was presented with the award for Outstanding Teaching by an Administrative/Professional.
The Janice Witherspoon Neuleib Award for Outstanding Scholarly Achievement by a tenured professor was presented by Professor Neuleib, Ph.D., to Professor Karen Coats, Ph.D., Department of English, and Assistant Professor Suejung Han, Ph.D., Department of Psychology, was the winner of the Excellence Award for Outstanding Scholarly Achievement for a pre-tenured faculty member.
Director Steve Halle, Ph.D., of the Department of English’s Publications Unit, won the award for Outstanding Administrative Professional, and Rob Whalen, broadcast engineer for TV-10, was the winner of the Scott M. Elliott Award for Outstanding Civil Service Staff. “All of this year’s award winners have vital roles in ensuring the continued success of programs across the College of Arts and Sciences,” said Dean Gregory Simpson. “The humanities, the social sciences, the natural sciences, and mathematics all play an essential part in the success not only of our college, but of the University and our world.”
