William Potts-Datema of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will present “CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health and Our Program’s Approaches” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, in Schroeder Hall, room 130, on the Illinois State University campus. Potts-Datema’s presentation, the 2018 Department of Health Sciences Nolte Scholar Lecture, is free and open to the public.
Potts-Datema serves as chief of the program development and services branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Adolescent and School Health. He will discuss the division’s work in surveillance, research application, and programs directed toward youth. He will share information regarding the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, School Health Profiles, tools that schools and others may use to improve their work, and programmatic approaches and successes, with an emphasis on health education for young people.
Potts-Datema has worked in education and public health on the local and national levels for 37 years. He has held a number of national leadership positions including director of partnerships for children’s health at the Harvard School of Public Health, and executive director of the Society of State Leaders of Health and Physical Education in Washington, D.C. He holds a doctoral degree in public health from the University of Georgia.
