The mock trial team began its 2018-19 season with an impressive showing at the Huskies Invitational hosted by Northern Illinois University (NIU) during the last weekend in October.
The Redbirds garnered a 5-3 record in a field of 14 teams. Illinois State placed fifth in the tournament.
Illinois State won both judges’ ballots in its round against Elmhurst College. They split ballots in competitions against the University of Iowa, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC).
The Illinois State squad was led by team captain, Ethan Lyons, a senior majoring in political science and legal studies. Other team members include Elizabeth Adebiyi, Lilian Alexandrova, A.J. Blodgett, Paige Honegger, Henry Martin, Erin Monroe, and Juli Saldivar.
Illinois State faced the University of Iowa team that won the tournament. Loyola University of Chicago took second. The UIC team that split ballots with the Redbirds placed third. Cornell College took fourth place.
